Alu Pcr Lab
Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to successfully isolate the Alu gene in our DNA, to see if we are homozygous (+/+, -/-), or heterozygous (+/-).
Hypothesis: If we correctly isolate the Alu gene in our DNA we can see if we are homozygous(-/- +/+), or heterozygous. Also if we successfully complete this lab, we will have done a college level procedure/lab.
Materials and Procedure: Refer to the BABEC Alu PV92 PCR Lab Procedure. Here is a link to the online copy of the lab.
Results: By successfully completing this lab I was able to find out that I am homozygus negative.
Analysis: I am homozygous negative because I only have one band at the 415 mark. As you can tell by looking in the 4th row, which is where mine is. This means that I may be more closely related to Africans/Asians because they have a shorter strand (homozygous).
Conclusion: By completing this lab successfully we were able to determine if we were homozygous (+/+, -/-) or heterzygous and complete a college level lab. Two things that could have gone wrong in this lab are one, not properly getting a DNA sample, and two you could have not micropipeted properly. Thankfully though nothing went wrong and this lab went out with a bang.
