Personalized 3-D Helmet
and Content
Through the month of late October and November, our STEM class has been working on our sketching skills. WE have had over 40 video tutorials on o how to sketch from 2 point perspective and orthographic, We have moved on from that and Mr.Tronocni has tasked us with creating a 3-D model. Our 3-D model is to be of a helmet we personally designed ourselves. For my model, I partnered with another student for we were both working on the plane project at the same time. It made creating the helmet and understanding the concept of 3-D modeling a little easier to grasp. You may be wondering what exactly 3-D modeling is. 3-D modeling is the use of software to create a virtual three-dimensional model of some physical object. 3-D modeling is used in many different industries, including virtual reality, video games, 3D printing, marketing, TV and motion pictures, scientific and medical imaging and computer-aided design and manufacturing CAD/CAM. 3-D modeling software generates a model through a variety of tools and approaches including:

- simple polygons.
- 3-D primitives -- simple polygon-based shapes, such as pyramids, cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.
- spline curves.
- NURBS (non-uniform rational b-spline) -- smooth shapes defined by bezel curves, which are relatively computationally complex.

This overall project ad been quite interesting all on its own. I wont lie, I did struggle with understanding this concept. Knowing how to properly use the modeling software was quite difficult. I am very thankful that I was working with a partner that helped me along the way. Together we worked to help each other grasp the concepts and ideas behind 3-D modeling. My high points of this project was actually creating a 3-D helmet. The end product was very rewarding to finally see. I also really enjoyed working with my partner. It is always nice to have someone there to bounce ideas off of, or they are they can help you understand a concept you do not understand. My lows of this project were quite simple and understandable. I personally had a very difficult time understanding how to use the software. I became very frustrated with myself during this project. This tied on to my other low. I really did not enjoy how long it took us to complete the helmet. I felt like I was holding us behind because around every corner a new concept had to be explained to me. All in all this was an interesting project and I am glad I now have the skills I do because of it.
