the gold award
HThe Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. For my gold award I partnered with Dr.LB at San Marin High School to build a habitat Garden. For my actual project I built 4 raised beds, 2 compost bins and a pathway. This habitat garden will benefit students on campus and also students at the nearby elementary school. We want to use this habitat garden to inform people about native plants and animals. This will help to deal with the identification of native and non native species while hiking or just walking around Novato, California. I was given incredible donations by many supporters. Chick-fil-a, Costco, and Trader Joes all contributed to having food for the students who came to help with my project. I would love to personally thank my hometown Ace Hardware for they gave an immense donation. This consisted of 16 bags of dirt, over 100ft of the plastic board used for the walkway, a weed tarp for said walkway along with the kindness that came with everything. This project most definitely could not have been completed without their help. My good friend Nick Sullivan also used this garden for his Eagle, which is the BSA equivalent of the Gold Award. He built and placed benches in the garden. It can now be used as a place to each lunch and hang out with friends. The Rotary club in Novato built a perimeter fence around the garden in the summer of 2016. This will help keep wildlife from eating all the plants in the garden. The garden is now complete and is currently being used by the students at San Marin High School. Below are some pictures from the build days of the project,
